Englishman Dan McLay of EF Education First upsets the rest of the sprinters' field as he won stage 2 of the third Gree Tour of Guangxi in Qinzhou ahead of Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) who moved into the lead of the overall classification. Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) rounded out the podium.
Sep Vanmarcke (EF Education First) and Jérôme Cousin (Total Direct Energie) initiated an early breakaway, reinforced by Laurens de Vreese (Astana). The leading trio reached a maximum advantage of 2'30'' after 40km of racing over the peloton led by UAE Team Emirates and Bora-Hansgrohe.
Vanmarcke forged on by himself in the last ten kilometers before the inevitable sprint finish. McLay launched it from far out and Ackermann was boxed in with 150 meters to go.
It's McLay's second win this year after stage 1 of the Herald Sun Tour in Australia in February. The Gree Tour of Guangxi is already a nice farewell to his team EF Education First before he'll return to Arkea-Samsic next year.
