Tipped as "the new Alberto Alberto Contador", Spain's Enric Mas (Deceuninck-Quick Step) claimed his first stage race victory in the UCI World Tour at the third Gree Tour of Guangxi that came to a conclusion with a bunch sprint won by Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) ahead of Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) in Guilin. Dani Martinez (EF Education First) and Diego Rosa (Team Ineos) rounded out the final podium while Ackermann took the points classification and Tomasz Marczynski (Lotto-Soudal) was the king of the mountain.
China's cycling star Wang Meiyin of Bahrain-Merida was first on the attack, right from the gun. He was brought back but went on the offensive again, along with Jay Thomson (Dimension Data) and Frederik Frison (Lotto-Soudal). The duel between Total Direct Energy and Wanty-Groupe Gobert continued as they respectively sent Paul Ourselin and Kevin Van Melsen to form a front group of five riders.
They reached a maximum advantage of four minutes lead at km 60. Four teams got organised to set the pace of the peloton: Deceuninck-Quick Step, Bora-Hansgrohe, EF Education First and UAE Team Emirates. It was all together again with 5km to go and all set for one last spectacular bunch gallop.
